Rigid Panels FAQ
How do I know if my panel is working?
To do this you will need to have access to a multi meter that can measure DC voltages up to 100V or higher and DC Amps up to 10A. Then with the wires from the panel (not connected to anything else) simply test the voltage coming from the solar panel and then test the current ie amps coming from the panel. Both tests are basically short circuiting the panel. Download the Solar System Help Sheet above for more information,
My solar panel has been hit by a ball and it cracked the surface but it's still working. Do I need to do anything?
Your panel will need replacing ASAP. The cracked surface will eventually let water into the laminate and as soon as we have a frost or temperatures below 0C the water will freeze and break up the circuit inside the panel.
Are my panels weatherproof?
Yes, all solar technology PV Logic panels are designed to be left outside all year-round rain or shine. However, they are not designed to work underwater i.e. submerged.
How do I connect the cable to my panel?
All PV logic panels 60w and above come with pre-installed cable. For the smaller panels you simply remove the top of the small electrical box at the rear of the panel and use the screw terminals to connect up the cables.
I can’t see what connection is positive (+) and negative (-) in the electrical box?
If you look closely you will see a small + or – shape in the boxes moulding indicating what each connection is. But generally if the cable entry holes are at the bottom of the box and you are looking at the internal connections the right hand side is positive (-) and the left hand side is negative (-) if there is a connection point in the middle do not use it.
What is the difference between mono and poly-crystalline?
The main difference between the two technologies is the type of silicon solar cell they use: mono-crystalline solar panels have solar cells made from a single crystal of silicon, whilst poly-crystalline solar panels have solar cells made from many silicon fragments melted together. This used to make a noticeable power difference but with improvements in technology over the last few years, now makes very little difference in performance.
How long should my panel last?
All PV logic rigid panels are designed for longevity. We give you a 10 year product guarantee and a 20 year cell performance guarantee.
